Postepay

How It Works?

Postepay cards work the way most bank cards do. With them you can transfer money between. They work as within the EU and around the world, and don’t require an existing bank account.

There are many ways to add fund to your virtual or plastic pre-paid Postepay card. Included are local post offices, banks, ATMs and Postepay’s official phone app that’s designed to work with iOS and Android devices. Postepay can even help you top-up your card by sending one of their postmen right to your doorstep.

Payments can also be made using your SIM card, by connecting it with a sister service called SIMply. Doing so allows you to pay for goods or services using your phone operator.

For the virtual card version, see e-Postepay.

Security

There are several security features used to ensure safety among Postepay users. In addition to the password and username features, encryption is used at all times. And since Postepay cards aren’t link to any bank accounts, they are a safer alternative for use on online e-commerce sites.

In addition to that, to renew one’s card, the user first has to enable Postepay’s Web Safety feature by linking their phone number with the card at any ATM or Italian post office. This in turn adds another layer of security by enabling a 3D Secure protocol along with a dynamic password that’s sent to the user via a free SMS.

Banking

Over 10 million Italian residents use Postepay for its fair pricing. Since Postepay cards can be used as regular Visa or MasterCard ones, there are no any additional charges per se. Usually, the only additional expense is related to top-ups, but it should be no more than 3 EUR per transaction. However, annual fees of 10 EUR and the cost for application – which is around 5 EUR – may apply in some cases as well. If you wish to keep the cost to the minimum, use e-Postepay.

Also note that some cards, like Postepay New Gift, have different yearly deposit and withdraw limits, which suite different needs. They even have a pre-paid card designed for youngsters aged between 10 and 18, called Postepay Junior.

Summary

Postepay is one of the most popular Italian pre-paid virtual and plastic cards, which is owned by the Italian Post Office. There’s no bank account needed to get one for a small cost, which you can top-up in thousands of locations in Italy and around the world.
