Visa Debit

In a world where people have to remain diligent about their finances, not everyone is interested in having credit cards. Access to credit is a dangerous thing for individuals who don't possess the ability to properly manage their finances. Back in the early 1980s, banks and other financial institutions started issuing debit cards tied to a customer's bank account. This allowed customers the opportunity to pay for goods and services without having to incur debt or carry large amounts of cash. Visa Inc. joined the debit card revolution by issuing its own Visa Debit brand. T&C's apply to all bonus offers on this site. Click for a list of all banking methods.

Visa Debit

About

In an effort to properly identify its different financial instruments, Visa Inc. elected to establish a separate brand for its debit card business. Working in conjunction with banks throughout the world, Visa contractually lent its name to debit cards being issued by a large number of banks both big and small. In some countries, the debit brand was originally known as Visa Delta. By 1998, all debit card operations were put under the Visa Debit moniker.

How it Works

Visa is an expert in the payment card industry. That is why major banks like Bank of America sign contracts to have Visa "sponsor" its debit cards. It gives the appearance of an extra level of integrity and security in the eyes of most customers. Customers are issued a debit card when they open a bank account. The debit card allows them to make point of sale purchases and withdraw money from ATMs. The "credit limit" on a debit card is equal to the amount of money a customer has in their bank account. If the amount in the account is lower than an attempted purchase, the merchant is alerted and the transaction is rejected.

Visa Debit and the iGaming Industry

The primary way online casinos and sportsbooks get money from customers is to allow them to gamble online is through a variety of banking options. While Visa Debit is not quite as popular as a Visa credit card banking option, there are still a large number of online gambling sites that accept the Visa Debit logo and associated debit cards. The iGaming concern gets the peace of mind knowing customers are using a secure banking option while customers get the protection that comes from not having access to anything more than their "cash on hand" when gambling. In most cases, customers will be subject to some type of transaction fee.

Summary

Owned by Visa, Visa Debit is a separate brand for its debit card business, where the credit limit on a debit card is equal to the amount of money a customer has in their bank account. The name, among other things, also gives the appearance of an extra level of integrity and security.
