Barcrest Slots

Every time the iGaming industry expands, it creates opportunity for consolidation. After establishing itself as a player in the gaming industry, Barcrest went through two acquisitions. The first time came in 1995 with IGT and then finally they were absorbed by Scientific Games in 2011. Click for Barcrest casinos.

The Company

While company operations are maintained under the SG Gaming name, they still support Barcrest's small online casino video slots library of 10 games. Barcrest was first introduced in 1968 at a time when the gaming industry was ripe for innovation.

One of the company's primary claims to fame was being credited as one of the first companies to innovate the 5-reel slot game. After spending decades developing games and cabinets for use in land-based casinos, the company later seized the opportunity to start converting some of its games for the Internet.

It was just at the point the company started introducing games to the online casino industry that its operations were halted and absorbed by Scientific Games.

The Software

In the little less than five years since the acquisition, it is unclear how SG Gaming plans to move forward in the iGaming industry. To date, they continue to support all 10 of Barcrest's video slots and have added 3 mobile games to the mix through the use of cutting edge software development technology.

The Slots

While Barcrest had a reputation for innovation, it never really showed up in its game development efforts. The games all seem to be rather ordinary by today's standards. Of course, those games were developed a few years ago, making it more reasonable that they lacked the same flash as many of today's better games do.

Even within a 10 game portfolio, the games covered a variety of themes, using standard 5-reel game-play formats. With only a small group of games from which to choose, here's a sampling of Barcrest's video slots.

Elvis: Top 20 – There is something to be said for being able to listen to and enjoy remembering the great Elvis Presley while playing a video slot game. The game comes with 5 reels and 20 pay-lines. The standard symbols are represented by popular Elvis images with the gold king's crown acting as the game's wild symbol. The wild subs for all other symbols except for three bonus scatters (the jukebox, red guitar and gold record). While all three scatters initiate a particular bonus game, the bonus games require no interaction. The player simply watches auxiliary reels spin for prizes.

Captain Jackpot's Cash Ahoy – It seems every portfolio needs a game with a pirate theme. The game is played with 5 reels, 20 pay-lines and no wild symbols. There are three bonus scatter symbols (pirate ship, treasure chest and Captain Jackpot). Each of the bonus scatter symbols ignite a different bonus game, though the player really has nothing to do, but watch reels spin to create prizes. This was a common Barcrest trait.

Summary

Barcrest, which is now under the Scientific Games umbrella, has a number of iconic video slots in its inventory. This includes Rainbow Riches, Cashino, Barkin’ Mad, Monopoly Big Event and Ooh Aah Dracula. They are all available for play in both demo and real money modes.
