How It Works?
Although you can link both MasterCard and Visa to your QIWI Wallet, the company only issues Visa cards. In addition to a plastic card, you can apply for QIWI Visa Virtual, which is a prepaid card to make purchases online. It works with any website, be it Russian or an international, where regular Visa cards are accepted.
First, to apply for one you don’t even have to have an account with QIWI. All you have to do is visit the bank cards area of the site and select the one you wish to buy. Since there’s no physical card, the way the virtual variant works is slightly different. That said, just enter your phone number and the amount you wish to load onto your card. You can pay using your existing QIWI Wallet account, another bank card, via QIWI terminal using cash or by phone. The virtual card details will be sent to you via SMS and can be used for online purchases, like mentioned earlier, or as a means to send money as a gift (if you know the person’s phone number). For security reasons, the card is only valid for 2 months.
Since QIWI Visa Virtual is a prepaid card, there’s no way to withdraw any money from it. However, upon expiry of the card, the balance will be transferred to the owner’s QIWI Wallet account, which is tied to the phone number.
Having mentioned one of the card’s main security features, which is the time limit, QIWI Visa Virtual is ideal for making purchases at unfamiliar websites.
Since all sensitive data will be sent to you via SMS message, including the card number, security code and expiration date, it’s essential to keep it private to avoid any leaks into the wrong hands.
To add funds to your account or buy the virtual card, there’s a 2.5% commission or no less than 1 USD or 25 RUB. All consecutive transfers cost 2%, plus any fees applicable from the merchant’s end.
The minimum you can add to your virtual card at once is 10 USD or 300 RUB, whereas the maximum is set to 1,000 USD. That said, the most you can spend per month is 40,000 RUB.
Other than that, there are no fees for purchases or SMS alerts that users get for each payment transaction.
QIWI VISA Virtual is a prepaid card that can be used to make online payments anywhere where Visa cards are accepted. It’s valid for 2 months and all you need to get one is a phone number. A 2.5% commission applies on all top-ups and a 2% fee to each transaction.
