How to Play Stravaganza Poker
Stravaganza Poker is an exciting new card game that is rather similar to blackjack in some ways. It was developed from an old classic by the well known casino software supplier, Playtech, as a table game to add to the variety of games available in online casinos.
Stravaganza Poker’s name suggests extravagance and a larger than life quality, and the game does not disappoint.
It is played on a grand scale, using 5 decks of cards, and most versions offers those gigantic jackpots that players love so much – progressives.
The object of the game is to put together a hand of cards that has a higher point value than the dealer’s does.
Rules of Stravaganza Poker
Stravaganza Poker is played with 5 standard decks of playing cards. The player starts off by placing a wager, consisting of coin values from 0.01 to 100. After the bet has been made, 2 cards are dealt to the player, face up, and 3 cards to the dealer, face down. Since the goal of Stravaganza Poker is to assemble the highest possible hand, a player can choose Money Back – opting out of the game without losing his bet if his initial hand totals less than 5 points.
For a hand of 5 to 9 points, he may go for Rescue Bet – he also opts out but will lose half of his bet. However, if his hand is worth 10 points or more, he can Play On – raise his bet and receive a 3rd and final card. The Player also has the alternative to Sit – keep his initial bet as is and use only his original 2 cards.
Winning at Stravaganza Poker
Once the player has been dealt his 3rd card, the point values of both the player’s and the dealer’s hands are then totaled and the highest hand wins. Unlike the rule in blackjack, there is no maximum limit on your points, so it is impossible to bust. The game becomes even more interesting when you learn that certain combinations of cards will lead to bonus payouts.
For example, 3 of a kind will pay out at 3 times your original bet. Three face cards will give you back 4 and half times your wager. This means that even if your hand is worth fewer points than the dealer’s you may actually end up ahead in terms of the payout you receive.
Stravaganza Poker Strategy
Stravaganza Poker consists of knowing when to opt out and when to continue. As a general rule, a player should opt out if he is dealt an initial hand with a low point value. If the value is less than 5 points, the player loses nothing at all, and from 5 to 9, there is a fairly small loss.
So the best strategy would seem to be to minimize your losses and move on to a new round. However, if there is a possibility that he will produce a winning combination, a brave player may choose to take a chance and Play On. After all, a hand such as 3 twos is worth only 6 points total, but it still pays out 3 times your wager.
